The family wished to expand their new build home, after living there for a few years in a way that suited their current needs. Happy with the number of bedrooms, the clients felt they required additional living space as their family grew. A small glazed entrance lobby not only provided practical and much needed storage, but also a statement entrance. The rear extension, expanded their existing open plan kitchen-dining area, incorporating a living space that opens out to the garden. The two glazed walls allow a connection to the woodland setting and outlook with a feature wood burning stove positioned at the glazing intersection to provide a design focal point. The connection to the external spaces is emphasised further with the design of the masonry ‘book end’ wall running parallel to a slayed boundary - driving visual focus to the garden and mature woodland beyond. The chamfered overhang compliments the contemporary design, providing shelter, shade and lighting to the new space.
